Great People and Food. I will be going there for years to come. Come down to Sargent and try them out.
Good people. The onion rings are outstanding, my hamburger was great. Patty melt was outstanding. Saturday is steak night get there early. Second review first was alittle hasty.
Great fresh local flavor! I stop in for a breakfast sandwich when I'm fishing. One sandwich is enough to hold me all day! We frequently eat dinner too. Really good seafood. I like the Sargent peppers and crab stuffed jalapeos. Daily lunch and dinner specials too.
Awesome food, I got the seafood plater it had a little bit of everything it was really, really good.
My husband and I went with friends for dinner and the experience was great. We sat on the back porch and watched the boats. I recommend this place 100%.
Ordered a shrimp basket to go, it was delicious!
The shrimp were huge, with just the right amount of batter. Plenty of fries, and even a couple of hushpuppies.
I need a nap.
If you are in the area don't miss this place! Everything is made from scratch. Fried shrimp was wonderfully fresh and cooked to perfection--crispy and juicy and not over-battered. We didn't get there until almost 9 pm but our baked potato was freshly baked (had not been sitting around for hours). The salad was large and its ingredients fresh. Dressing was homemade. They have roumalaude (sp?) sauce, whereas lots of restaurants look at you as if you have two heads if you ask for that. Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is dive-y but that is what you'd expect anyway! Somehow it works. We sat in the screened in porch and it was cool enough, even in August. Oh--please note that it is BYOB! We brought in wine and our own wine glasses. They provided the corkscrew:) Anyway, very good experience. Just remember to expect something like a dive but with great food. Someone call Guy Fieri!
Great food and great ambience!!! Neat little seafood grill on the canal. Fishing boats coming in so close that you can see what they caught for the day and talk about their adventures. BYOB!! Wish we had known this as we would have brought a cooler. Food quality was very good and service was quick and courteous. Will definitely make this our place to eat when we visit there again. They also have steaks and burgers which were very good if you aren't into seafood.
Dined here for years off and on. I gave it five stars for the great fresh seafood it serves plus it's less than a half block from my house. We went there yesterday so this review is for my current visits. We ordered a crab cake apetizer to start with which was almost excellent but lacked crab meat. I like to find chunks of crab meat in what I call most excellent cakes. Then ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo that was most excellent. It had a wonderful aroma and was swimming with lots of fresh seafood. Almost thought I was in Louisiana. Then a fried shrimp basket came soon after. The shrimp was so fresh that it might have come off the boat that is docked in the back. It was lightly battered and served hot. Service was great as it normally is. We occasionally dock our boat in the back and have dinner....
Wow! We will drive out here again. Seafood was fresh. Fried shrimp were perfect. Excellent seafood dive atmosphere, because it is!! Good to find a FL mullet shack inTX.
Even on their busiest nights, the food & the service is great! I usually can't decide between the Sargent Peppers & Boudin Balls so I just get them both! Breakfast here is great too! I love being able to get chicken fried steak before noon! And I can't forget my 1/2 sweet iced tea in a to go cup!
Great food and atmosphere. Really enjoyed the time visiting with staff. The boiled shrimp was excellent and not to pricey. Overall I give The Crab Trap an A+.
Holy moly, best breakfast burrito I've ever had! I was just here for Thanksgiving weekend to visit my family, I'm actually from Austin but this is hands-down the best burrito I've ever had. Also, my waitress was phenomenal - very kind and patient to explain the menu to me and she made a great recommendation. Five stars!
Out with friends on a Sunday ride. Wanted some seafood so headed on over to Sargent to try this place out. This is a small "dive" with good food and a fun casual atmosphere. To get here, you take the road over the bridge and drive until you see it on the right! I had the crab cakes, which were good. One of may friends had the chicken fried steak. It was good, but not great. Overall a fun place to visit with friends and a great time to enjoy the ride while getting there! Yep, we'll be back for sure!
We've had a place in Sargent for nearly 10 years. Restaurants come and go in this town due to the seasonal crowds. At The Crab Trap, the staff is pleasant, the food is good and the atmosphere is great. The kids beg us to visit here at least once per trip. If you're in Sargent, and you're hungry. This is where you eat....
While staying in Sargent, TX and fishing all day, my friends and I typically stop by The Crab Trap Bar and Grill. Very laid back and always a friendly atmosphere. The waitresses are super sweet and very helpful.
And now...my experience. I've been to MANY restaurants around the US and the world. I've been fortunate to experience great gourmet foods in many different culinary styles.
WITHOUT A DOUBT...I believe that I have had the BEST burger ever at this establishment! NO LIE. Which one do you ask? Well...I will opt out of sharing that info and allow for YOU to decide your own. Plus I don't want a mad dash to the Crab Trap Bar and Grill and next thing I know, there's a four hour wait just to get one. I'm just going to say that it has left me in awe these past few weeks and cannot wait until my next visit. I definitely would put this burger against any other burger place that I've been to. Those includes: In/Out, Five Guys, Whataburger, etc. I'd even include the Kobe Beef burger with side of onion rings and a Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley which just dropped to #2 on my list after 12 years at #1.
I don't take 5 star rating lightly, but it is well deserved. Thank you Crab Trap Bar and Grill for putting my faith back into what I took for granted for years.
Awesome little place out in the middle of nowhere. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all and have some really good food I highly recommend you come in here.
They've recently changed from a bar and grill to just a restaurant. But you can bring your own alcohol with you.
They've now closed on Tuesdays rather than Wednesday.
The food is moderately priced and very generous portions. I have the boiled shrimp Seafood Pot and it was really good potatoes an ear of corn and well over a pound of Cajun seasoned boiled shrimp. My co-workers have the surf and turf with shrimp the steak is advertised as between 10 and 12 ounces but I swear if this thing had to be at least 20 ounces. And lots of shrimp to go with it.
I also tried the fried pickles and the crab stuffed jalapeno poppers all were very tasty and you could tell they were freshly prepared.
Took a trip down to Sargent and this is where we wound it to eat and it did not disappoint. Food was great and the staff friendly. Would definitely recommend stopping in for some good fried shrimp, excellent crab cakes or some tasty boudin balls.
We made another trip to Sargent which means more trips to The Crab Trap! They have been open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) but starting next week, they will be open 7 days a week.
I like The Crab Trap because they have a variety of options, everything from chicken tenders to po'boys to shrimp salads to root beer floats. Their fries are awesome, burgers are really good, and I also love the fried okra. Service is good and they have an outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. Sadly, we didn't get there for breakfast during our visit, but we have enjoyed that in the past.
Check out the pictures I posted for the most current menu offerings. From what I recall, their hours are Su-Th 7am-8pm, F-Sa 7am-9pm. This could change as they get into tourist season.
Great place to eat when you are in Sargent! Think they have new people in the kitchen because we ate there twice and both times we had excellent food! (In the past I was told it was hit and miss.) They do not serve alcohol but do have a variety of soft drinks and iced tea both sweet and unsweetened. Plan on returning soon to try other things. Had their stuffed shrimp and fried shrimp which were great! The onion rings are really off the chain!
I drove 5 hours yesterday to get to the Texas coastline for some peace and relaxation after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan. This location is an hour from where I'm staying, but I researched to find a place that served seafood on the water that had great reviews. This place is set into a hidden beach community. I ate on the deck out back which is over the canal. There were people driving boats and jet skis. There were lots of pelicans to look at in the distance. The server was super friendly and provided a ton of great suggestions from the menu. I was looking for local caught fish, crab, or shrimp and that was the only thing they didn't have and that wasn't a deal breaker for me. I ordered the seafood gumbo to start and also the crab leg boil. She stated that the fish or shrimp tacos are excellent and also their fried food too, but I went ahead and got what I ordered and it was soooooo good. This was totally worth the drive and was the perfect place for my mini retreat. Thank you, delicious!
This place is awesome! Great food, all home made sauces, and the service was excellent. We tried their fried pickles, they were amazing! I don't remember what fish we had but it was tasty! I definitely recommend making a little detour if you're in the area. My mom came all the way from Europe for this
Always one of my favorite places when I go to Sargent. Food is great. You will wait a while on the weekends but it is worth it.
The Food is always consistent. Excellent! The waitstaff is very timely. would recommend to anyone coming to Sargent.
Finally tried The Crab Trap after years of passing by. The location was previously a bait shop but has been turned into a great place to eat. Everything we had for dinner was excellent and would recommend coming in and trying it!
After debating what to have I went with the grilled chicken dinner with fried okra and mashed potatoes. My husband had the mahi mahi dinner with rice and grilled vegetables. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, the okra was hot and crispy and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The mahi mahi was excellent and the vegetables were cooked perfectly with nice flavor. I also tried a few bites of a side salad with the homemade ranch dressing and it was very good. The chicken fried chicken another at our table had was very good as well with the batter very light.
Our waitress was very nice and we were told to sit anywhere we like. It is a family friendly and kid friendly restaurant.
Definitely would come back with plenty of delicious options to choose!
Mon & pop restaurant. Waitress was very attentive and nice. Food...boudain balls, death burger and mahi mahi tacos were all amazing. The big was pretty large with thick meat. They are open 8 days a week per the sign lol.
Awesome place. Great, huge burgers: every.single.time!! THE best fries in town. And their grilled shrimp are to die for. Highly recommend.
The bad review about the shrimp po boy: I've seen their shrimp po boy, and those are JUMBO shrimp they put on them
We came to Sargent on a mom's weekend. We found them in YELP. We arrived about 8:15pm on a Friday night and encountered a 20 min wait. We all had to potty. The bathrooms were located outside and the toilet paper had to be put into the trash can. They have complimentary bug spray (name brand - Cutter) for patrons.
We had an awesome waitress who took great care of us. She encouraged us to bring in our mixer and make our own drinks. She even seated us at a table with a plug and advised to hurry to the drive thru liquor store as they closed at nine pm. They had huge portions and all 6 of us enjoyed our meals. The only downfall was that the Coca Cola syrup in the fountain machine was weak. They did have good ice and large cups. We like large! It was a great dining experience.
I'm rating it 5 for the food. The restaurant is on the water so it's not a fufu looking place but the food is great. Cooked all the way through and hot! Definitely a popular family stop because the place was full of friendly, happy families. Nice flavor- wonderful place to get away from the clip-art restaurant- they do it right!
Absolutely delicious grilled mahi mahi tacos! They came with this incredible honey-lime cilantro sauce which was out of this world. I got the cole slaw on the side and it was also great. My fianc got the fried okra with his tacos and said it was crispy, crunchy and very hot and fresh.
The tacos with corn tortillas and cole slaw are gluten free.
We got here on a Sunday night just past closing time. We asked if we could still get in and they said absolutely !! The best food and service I've had in a long time !! Highly recommend it !
